Tolerance Tolerated

Friday November 16 is declared the International Day for Tolerance

Tolerance: sympathy or indulgence for beliefs or practices differing from or conflicting with one’s own.

Tolerate: to put up with

I think the better word in all of this is respect, if you have ever felt tolerated, it is not a very good feeling, you feel second class or lower.  I understand the idea behind tolerance, I think it is more of a Utopian thought than a realistic one.

Respect on the other hand is a choice that is up to individuals.

The Golden Rule is not just a catchy phrase, there is an actual wisdom to it.

Today I am afraid that the wisdom of the Golden Rule has been traded for a lower standard- that of tolerance.
