Christmas is by far my favorite time of the year. It is not because of the gifts, but rather because of the attitude the majority of people are in, people seem to let their guards down for a couple of weeks during this time of the year and actually seem to enjoy life! The transformation of Scrooge in A Christmas Carol points to the attitude I am referring to. I notice it the most in myself because I too want to be a joy to be around and not an Ebenezer or a Grinch!
There is not much to say about Christmas, for it has already been said and written. I believe that we need to live out Christmas every day of the year- it is always great to give, not just at Christmas. It is always appropriate to be kind and caring to the less fortunate, not just at Christmas. It is always fun to celebrate with others, not just at Christmas. Christmas is the celebration of something so rare and so valuable, say 1/infinity that we miss it in the simplicity of the story. The simplicity is- God gave. There is nothing more than that, because that is the heart of the story of Christmas.
So what do Scrooge, The Grinch and Jesus have in common?
They represent a life transformed.
