Being Real: Silence

How do you communicate silence in a blog post?

a picture? an empty space? not likely to get much response…

sometimes silence is needed in our world of non-stop noise,

silence is wisdom’s response when words are voiced from the mouth of fools,

“Never miss a good chance to shut up.”
Will Rogers

when words become the comfort of rational thinking, silence can be misconstrued as a non-rational mind,

“He who does not understand your silence will probably not understand your words.”
Elbert Hubbard

silence is not ignorant, but can be perceived as such,

“The true genius shudders at incompleteness — imperfection — and usually prefers silence to saying the something which is not everything that should be said.”
Edgar Allan Poe, Marginalia

silence, absence of sound, peace, fear, unknown, deathly…

“You are most powerful when you are most silent. People never expect silence. They expect words, motion, defense, offense, back and forth. They expect to leap into the fray. They are ready, fists up, words hanging leaping from their mouths. Silence? No.”
Alison McGhee, All Rivers Flow To The Sea

  1. What timing!! I got an email from the MCF and would you know, just after you sent this that their titled was simply “Shhhh”
Maybe God is trying to tell me something??

  2. Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! (‭Psalms‬ ‭46‬:‭10‬ NKJV)

My father often said, “Better to keep quiet and let others think you’re a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
